William

When residents come to Depaul House they meet with their Program Counselors and set goals they want to accomplish. William Giles came to Depaul House on May 11th and his goal was to get a job and then get his own place.

William had lost his job and came to Depaul from Somerset Shelter. He explained that he doesn’t like to think of himself as homeless. “Coming to Depaul has been great. The staff have helped tremendously, they have kept me ‘up’ and encouraged me to keep going when I was really down. They helped me to put together my resume and I must have sent out about seventy. I spent the last two months trying to get a job. I was job searching on the computer and saw an opening at Drexelbrook Catering. I sent in my resume and about four weeks later they called me in for an interview. I got the job! It is part time with a lot of hours and a chance for advancement.”

“I would like to stay at Depaul for a little while longer so I can save up money and find an affordable place to live. Depaul seems like a home to me, I have my own room with a key and I don’t feel homeless here. This is a nice place –if you can’t succeed here, then you really don’t want to.”
