James Reed is Returning the Favor
Former resident James Reed returned to Depaul House this past month, but not to live. He moved out of Depaul 11 months ago to his own unit at Project HOME's Connelly House, and now volunteers his time here four days a week. James does everything from staffing the front office to preparing lunch.
When asked why he's volunteering here, he responded, "I'm grateful for so many things: I woke up this morning, for instance. I'm grateful for the place where I live and for the people at Depaul who helped get me there. I've come a long way in two years. I went from prison to a homeless shelter and now I've got my own place. It didn't feel right not to give back when so much has been given to me. So I'm here to help out in my own small way. It just seems like the right thing to do." In this season of giving and thankfulness, we at Depaul House would like to express our gratitude to the many volunteers and donors who've contributed to us this year and who help make Depaul House not just a program, but a community.
